|AAT Business School – Leverage On Location (Regionalization)|
AAT Business School, the higher education arm of AAT Sri Lanka and the Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a MOU on 26th July 2016 initiating a partnership to deliver AAT Business School courses in the Ratnapura District for the benefit of AAT members, Passed Finalists and those in the SME sector in the District. The MOU was signed by Mr. J.M.U.B Jayasekara - President, AAT Sri Lanka and Mr. C.J Gunaseela, Director/Executive Advisor - Business School, Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The event signifies a stepping stone to link AAT Business School with the regional SME sector and other industries to promote multidisciplinary and innovative competencies of entrepreneurs and their employees for a competitive business environment. This understanding therefore will be a very good opportunity for the business community, school leavers, employees and professionals in the Ratnapura area to pursue their higher studies from their native place itself. Mr. J.M.U.B Jayasekara highlighted that a number of unique programmes aimed at developing skills particularly in Management, Information Technology and Communication, have been introduced and successfully carried out over the years in Colombo attracting Government, Private and other corporate sectors. Therefore the time is right to regionalize them for the benefit of those residing outside Colombo. Further Mr. CJ Gunaseela pointed out that the recognition and certification for these programmes are equally important for those in the Ratnapura District to ensure the knowledge gained and skills developed through these programmes.
The Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka was established in 1987, on the initiative of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka with the primary objective of producing Accounting Technicians for the private and public sectors. During the last three decades it has acquired a reputation as the undisputed leader for producing quality accounting technicians to the nation. Today AAT Sri Lanka is proud to be strong with a membership of over 4,000, Passed Finalists numbering about 30,000 and an active student population of over 34,000 considered as the highest for any Professional Institute in Sri Lanka. Within a short span, AAT Sri Lanka has gained international recognition and obtained a full membership of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) and associate membership of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).
AAT Business School is the “Higher Education Centre” of AAT Sri Lanka that focuses on executive development of participants enabling them to become aspiring leaders committed towards enhancing competencies and confer recognition to those seeking individual development. Due to the rising demand and dynamic technological advancement. AAT Business School has spearheaded into venturing on various other courses and workshops to cater to the emerging needs of organizations and corporates.
The Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) as the major private sector organization in the district is geared to play the main role in the business development support services. With the active support, guidance and cooperation of the local government bodies, the SCCI is carrying out all types of entrepreneur development services for the benefit of private sector (SME) development in the Ratnapura District. In 2002, SCCI started Technical & Management related training programmes under the Sabaragamuwa Business School.
